Yakama Hatchery

Transcript:

“We are the Cle Elum Supplementation and Research Facility, the supplementation part would mean we’re taking from the wild, and we’re putting back from the wild.

But when we signed the treaty, we were promised there would always be fish in the water. Running a tribal hatchery, you see that it’s not just the animal that you’re raising and caring for, it is significant in our cultural and traditional practices.

We need some more younger folks that are interested, energetic to carry on this kind of legacy. We were fortunate to have the Yakama Nation Tribal School come up for a tour, and that was one of my key points to them. This is your facility, this is the Yakama Nation.”
